It\u2019s 2016 and my \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/cookywook.co.uk\/blog\/2016-life-project\/\">big dumb life project<\/a>\u201d is officially up and running: <em>Richard&#8217;s 2016!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To recap:&nbsp;<strong>I\u2019m living each day of the year according to the \u2018day of the year\u2019 it is.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not been the most spectacular start, but here\u2019s the rundown of how&nbsp;the first week&nbsp;has gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">JANUARY 1ST: COPYRIGHT LAW DAY<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yay! Copyright Law! Way to start on a high note, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seriously, I almost considered packing the whole idea in right away with this. What a terribly boring day. But there was good news. The website I use (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.daysoftheyear.com\/\">daysoftheyear.com<\/a>) had this advice for celebrating the day:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The best way to celebrate Copyright Law Day is to think of a way to show your gratitude to the creators of some computer program or work of literature, music or art that you particularly enjoy<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Easy enough. So this was a bit easier. Secondly, I took the time to have a go on an original Commodore 64 version of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy video game. It\u2019s one of the best and funniest text adventures ever made (I died SO much). Play it yourself&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/articles\/1g84m0sXpnNCv84GpN2PLZG\/the-hitchhikers-guide-to-the-galaxy-game-30th-anniversary-edition\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the evening, I watched&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1478964\/\">Attack the Block<\/a>. It was very science fiction and quite good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">JANUARY 3RD: DRINKING STRAW DAY<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I attempted to drink everything through a straw. Too much Christmas celebrating and not enough sleep I reckon. Drinking a pint through a pub straw probably didn\u2019t help either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thankfully, Spotify has lots of self hypnotism albums! And I found one that promised to make me feel better:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/play.spotify.com\/album\/22hieqlYETGKEifu3Svj9S?play=true&amp;utm_source=open.spotify.com&amp;utm_medium=open\">Hypnosis For Pain Relief And Mind Body Healing, Chronic And Acute Pain Control<\/a>. I tried birdspotting (well, I looked out of a window for a bit). But I didn\u2019t really see much. Besides, there\u2019ll most likely be an egg day at some point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">JANUARY 6TH:&nbsp;<del>THREE KINGS DAY<\/del>&nbsp;BEAN DAY<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ok, so the website I\u2019m basing this on said that January 6th was Three Kings Day aka Epiphany aka Twelfth Night. So I kinda cheated and opted for&nbsp;<strong>Bean Day<\/strong>&nbsp;instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I struggled through the whole day trying to find beans. Try as I might, I couldn\u2019t find a bean bag to sit on, nor was anyone willing to call me \u201cold bean.\u201d Instead, I just settled on having beans on toast for dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No picture because you know what a 26 year old eating baked beans looks like. Maybe you even are one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">JANUARY 7TH: I\u2019M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE DAY<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today! So I\u2019m guessing this one is a reference to that Network movie, right<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"616\" height=\"347\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rGIY5Vyj4YM?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I didn\u2019t fancy a full-on breakdown at work or shouting at anyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead I focussed on an actual problem in my life: my house. My house has been having power cuts pretty much weekly for years. I\u2019ve reported it to my letting agent, and they\u2019ve done nothing about it. Recently, I managed to get them to send an electrician round \u2013 but he had absolutely no idea what was causing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This morning I was woken up at 5.30 by yet another power cut (yes, I can hear power cuts). Mad as hell, I wasn\u2019t going to take it anymore. That\u2019s kind of annoying, as I basically called the electrician useless. Long story short, he gave me a call in my lunch break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given the nature of the cuts (random, happen at night) they reckon it\u2019s either my fridge or the boiler as these are the only things that are always on. BUT they can\u2019t narrow down what it is. So they want me to either turn off my fridge or my boiler and see what happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obviously this is terrible. Turn off my fridge and all my delicious food spoils. Turn off my boiler and I lose all my radiators and hot showers (by the way, I\u2019m still quite ill). My housemates don\u2019t really fancy either option. So I\u2019m stuck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power vs. Food vs. Hot Water. A true trilemma. I really don\u2019t know what to do. So I guess I\u2019ll have to take it for a little bit longer until I figure something out. Grr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What a week, eh!
